Oral Surgeons Can Give Better Results During Extractions
Posted on 4/10/2018 by Doctor Haigney
When you need to get a tooth extracted, the first and only option you have is to set an appointment with a dentist or an oral surgeon. Oral surgeons are not the usual choice for tooth extraction and some people do not even know that they even exist.
But oral surgeons have extensive experiences with tooth extraction and the level of expertise of an oral surgeon cannot be compared to that of a general dentist.
We know the word surgeon may sound that you will be undergoing a major surgery, and it can be intimidating, but that is not all we do. While some dentists are capable of doing minor surgical procedures, an oral surgeon will provide you with better results and more options.
Oral Surgeon Over Dentist
A tooth extraction is typically a simple procedure for a dentist or an oral surgeon. The major difference that you need to keep in mind here is an oral surgeon is prepared, equipped and capable of handling any problem that may arise. If a general dentist encounters a problem, in most cases they will have to refer to an oral surgeon to complete the procedure.
Another major advantage that an oral surgeon has to provide better results during extraction is comfort. Oral surgeons, due to the nature of some of the procedures that must be performed, are trained and licensed in the use and administration of general anesthesia and IV sedation.
They do a lot more than just make you feel more comfortable. It helps to keep a patient from flinching or twitching during an extraction, which could affect the outcome of the procedure.
If you need to have a tooth extracted do not automatically assume that a general dentist is the best solution for you. More often than not, seeing an oral surgeon will provide you with better results and a more comfortable experience.
Treating patients the way we would expect to be treated.
